About

Gerrit Vyn has provided stock and assignment photography, natural history consultation and writing and photo editing services to a range of clients since 1995. He brings a lifetime of natural history study, wilderness exploration and an artist’s eye to each project he undertakes.

Gerrit’s experience includes working as a field biologist in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest and directing a conservation organization in southern Africa. He has spent recent years working as an audio producer and natural history sound recordist at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. His production credits include the definitive audio collection, Voices of North American Owls. In 2006 and 2007 Gerrit led field expeditions to record wildlife in some of Alaska’s most remote and alluring wilderness areas.

Gerrit’s images and writing appear regularly in books, magazines and multimedia productions. Recent publications include several cover photographs and a feature article on Alaska’s North Slope in Living Bird magazine. Over 400 of his avian images appear in the authoritative reference, The Birds of North America Online. Gerrit’s work has been featured on the syndicated NPR program, Living on Earth, Morning Edition and Birdnote.
